Getting Started

The first step is registering as a Step Up user. Once signed up enter the Healthy Competition area and create a league.

In creating a League you become the League Leader.

League Leader

Using the league function allows you to create a league with multiple teams that can compare progress to see who has the highest ranking.

For each league, there is a League Leader. It will be their job to recruit team captains and supervise the competition within their league.

Creating a League

Once you select the “Create League” link the system walks you through setting up your league including the following:

• Submit team information
• Choosing a competition start date
  (We suggest a minimum of 3 weeks out, to allow those invited to respond and sign up.)
  NOTE: after a competition starts no new players can be added.
• Setting Up League Roster
  This is where you recruit others to join you as Team Captains. It is a simple as adding the email addresses of those you want to invite to play as “Team Captains”.

Team Captain Invitations

After completing the “Create A League”  form,  Step Up sends out an email invitation with a unique Step Up link, to individuals included on your league roster inviting them to join the Step Up competition as a Team Captain.

Those you invited to join must then accept the invitation to be a Team Captain by clicking the unique link in their email and following the instructions on the Step Up invitation page.

Team Captains

Once a prospective player clicks the unique link in their email invitation, the Step Up invitation page walks them through a simple acceptance process.

• They accept or decline the invite
• Then they must either ”Login” if they’re already a Step Up user or “Sign Up” if they are new to Step Up.

Step Up tracks if they’re a new or returning user and adds them to your competition in the new league you created and assigns them a Team Captain role.

NOTE: they must use the unique link in the email to be assigned to the correct league.

At this level the users are considered Team Captains and once they sign up will have to set up their team, recruit team members and keep them motivated.

Creating a Team

Once an invitee has accepted the Team Captain invitation and signed up or logged in, the system walks them through setting up their team including the following:

• Submit team information
• Setting up Team Roster
  This is where Team Captains recruit others to join as Team Members. It is a simple as adding the email addresses of those they want to invite to play on their team.

Your teams should be relatively even to keep the competition fair.

After the Team Captain completes the “Create A Team” form, Step Up sends out an email invitation with a unique Step Up link, to individuals included on their team roster inviting them to join the Step Up competition.

League Leader Tools

A League Leader has access to several tools to help them monitor and communicate to the league including:

• Adding new Teams
  NOTE: after a competition starts no new Teams can be added.
• Sending email messages to Team Captains and Team Members
• Changing your competition start date
• View the League Roster
• View and Edit Team Members input
• Viewing progress in two ways:
  • the team rankings as a percent to goal
  • the team rankings as a percent of improvement
• Canceling the League
• Change Captains
• Export League results and input

Team Captains Tools

A Team Captain has access to several tools to help them monitor and communicate to their team including:

• Adding new Team Members
  NOTE: after a competition starts no new players can be added.
• Sending email messages to Team Members
• Viewing the Team Roster
• Viewing Team Members input
• Viewing progress in two ways:
  • the teams ranking as a percent to goal
  • the teams ranking as a percent of improvement

NOTE: Team Captains have the ability to view Team Members daily servings/steps input, but only the League Leader can edit another users input.

Tracking and monitoring
Because everything is done via the web, it's easy to see the team's results on a regular basis. This becomes a useful tool for those who want to motivate their teams or themselves to pick up the pace.

Scoring

Each player (Team Captains & Individual Team Members) is responsible for keeping track of how much they walk as well as how many servings of fruits and vegetables they eat. They are required to enter the total number of steps and servings on their personal Step Up Web page. This can be done daily or weekly. These numbers are then added to the team’s overall progress as their contribution to the team’s success.

A pedometer is one of the easiest ways to track your steps.
